Graduate students from College of Foreign Languages and Cultures won the First Prize in the 6th Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition

On Arpril 2nd, the 6th Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition’s Final Round was held in National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan. Contestants competed with each other and showcased their interpreting skills on the same stage. The contestants are top interpreting students from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Xiamen University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University, Fu Jen Catholic University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Changhua University of Education, Hong Kong Baptist University, University of Macau and a guest contestant is from Monterey Institute of International Studies. In the end, after 3 rounds of fierce competition that lasted for 6 hours, a graduate student majoring in interpreting from College of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Xiamen University named Liu Jing stand out and won the First Prize. Another interpreting students won the second prize. This is another achievement made by our delegation in the history of Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition and has made its contribution to the celebration of the 95th anniversary of Xiamen University.

This competition was initiated in September 2015 and lasted for half of a year. It went through a series of stages from Provincial Competition, Regional Competition, Mainland Final/ Taiwan Final/ Honkong Final and Macau Final to the Cross-Strait Final Competition. An unprecedented 2000 participants from 210 universities around the world have entered the competition. As the initiator and organizer of the Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition, the university leaders and College of Foreign Languages and Cultures pay great attention to this event. The strong delegation consisted by deputy dean Chen Duanduan and Xuqi, Professor Chen Jing, and Dr. Su Wei and the two contestants fulfilled their commitment and achieved great results.

In addition, two days before the competition, our delegation was invited to visit elite Taiwan Universities including Chinese Culture University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Tamkang University, National Chengchi University, National Changhua University of Education. The two sides discussed issues about continuing to hold the 2nd Cross-Strait (Japanese) Interpreting Competition and to hold the first (Russian) Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition.
