According to the arrangement made by the State Council Education Supervision Commission Office, the 2016 national evaluation on professional degree will be launched soon. In order to ensure that Xiamen University will achieve great results in the evaluation, to strengthen the internal building of degree authorization units, and to improve the quality of our graduate education for professional degrees, on May 17^th, the graduate school held a mobilization meeting on participating the National evaluation on professional degree. In the meeting, certain work arrangement was made. Those who attend the meeting include Tao Tao, the executive dean of the graduate school; Tan Zhong, vice dean of graduate school; Fan Lijuan, deputy director of the office of postgraduate degrees and program; Xue Chenglong, deputy director of office of academic affairs; the deans, secretaries, and people in charge of the degree authorization of the departments that are going to be evaluated. This meeting was hosted by Tao Tao.

First, Tao Tao conveyed the spirit of The notice for the pilot evaluation of professional degree by State Council Education Supervision Commission Office and The notice for the pilot evaluation of professional degree by the Degree center of Ministry of Education. He said that now Xiamen University is actively preparing for the evaluation on the First-level Disciplines and the qualification evaluation on the degree authorization unit and with the national evaluation on professional degree on the way, we face a tough task and huge responsibility. The results of the evaluation on professional degree will have a critical bearing on our graduate education for professional degrees. It has drawn a lot of attention from the public. The several degree authorization units for professional degree that are going to be evaluated are all traditional strengths of our university. These units have great influence in certain industries and have cultivated a lot of talents for the society.

He asked every departments to attach great importance on this evaluation, to set up groups lead by the head of the department. He also asked them to read thoroughly the evaluation norm system, coordinate efficiently and integrate resources in order to show the great achievements we have made. At the same time, everyone should take this opportunity to review the development of the professional degrees in our university with cautious and objective principle in order to find what’s missing and to build a management system that is more consistent with the development of the professional degree. Hence we can truly improve the quality of the graduate education for professional degree. He said that the graduate school will provide full support to coordinate this evaluation. Tao Tao also arranged the schedule for the preparation for the evaluation.

Tan Zhong took the random inspection on master dissertation in Fujian province as an example and made an in-depth analysis on the quality of the master dissertation of professional degree graduates. He pointed out that, in the random inspection on master dissertation in Fujian province in 2015, the results of our university is unsatisfactory. He said this revealed some problem existing in our graduate education for professional degree students, especially in the reviewing of master dissertation. He hoped that each department can take this as a reminder and take this opportunity to find and tackle the problem.

People in charge of the degree authorization discussed the plan and difficulties in the preparation for the evaluation. The leaders and related personnel answered the questions encountered in the evaluation in detail. The graduate school took down some question related to policies and planned to communicate with related departments of the Ministry of Education.

The evaluation on professional degree were organized by the State Council Education Supervision Commission Office and carried out by the degree center. The results will serve the education supervision evaluation, government decision-making and resources distribution, ect. This year the evaluation on professional degrees involved 8 categories including Juris Master, MBA (including EMBA), Master of Public Administration, Master of Accounting, Master of Fine Arts (music). These professional degree authorization units are set up relatively early and has drawn great public attention.
